Outreach session at Kaafu Atoll Dhiffushi Schooll
An outreach session for the school children studying in grades 7 to 10 of Kaafu Atoll Dhiffushi School was held on 21 June 2019. A presentations was given by the Oureach Officer of Baa Atoll Mr.Shafee Ali fcovering a wide range of areas on the Reserve.
At the end of the presenatation a Q n A session was also held where the school children gathered more information on Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve.
The information session was held on the sidelin of the Workhop held in Dhiffushi on Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) National Workshop for Republic of Maldives was held in Kaafu Dhiffushi from 19 May 2019 20 May 2019.

"Vaavoshi" Turtle Festival
Vaavoshi Turtle Festival organized by Olive Ridley Project was held on the island of Hithaadhoo today. The Festival aims to raise awareness on the threats faced by sea turtles and how to work together in saving this endagered sepecies.
A total of 8 presentatios were undertaken during the festival and we at the BR office is proud to have participated and undertaken presentations as well in which school children from all schools of Baa Atoll islands took part.
During the Festival site visits were also conducted to the children who were attending the Festival to Olive Ridley Rescue Centre at Coco Palm Dhunikolhu.
The organizers of the event, Olive Ridley Project, started their efforts back in 2013 due to the vast number of olive ridley turtles that were found entangled in the Maldives. Ghost nets pose an alarming threat to sea turtles in the country and in 2017 the Olive Ridley Project, in partnership with Coco Collection, were able to build the first fully equipped marine turtle rescue centre in the Maldives. A full time veterinarian and a housing space of eight turtles has enabled the team to treat 91 injured turtles and successfully release 39 turtles back into the wild.
The Festival was undertaken with the assistance from several resorts and dive centres of Baa Atoll.
Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) National Workshop
Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) National Workshop for Republic of Maldives was held in Kaafu Dhiffushi from 19 to 20 May 2019. The two day multi-stakeholder workshopwas attended by various government istitutions and some environmental NGOs.
Outreach Officer of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office Mr. Shafee Ali and Ranger Mr.Farih Ahmed Rasheed represented the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office in this Workshop.
The topics covered in the Workshop included marine and coastal biodiversity, potential ecologically and biologically sensitive areas for Maldives to understand and map the values of marine biodiversity, current and future marine spatial requirements in the Maldives
and group presentations on such areas in Maldives that meet the criteria.
