Information session on Olhugiri Management Plan

An nformation session on Olhugiri Management Plan was held tonight at Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo School.
 
Registered users of Olhugiri island from Thulhaadhoo together with VP of Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council , President of Thulhaadhoo Council, Acting Officer in charge of BR Office, representatives from BR Office, Environmental Protection Agency of Maldives and MD of Baa Atoll Conservation Fund were also present in this meeting. 
 
A presentation on Olhugiri Management Plan was given by EPA in this information session. Earlier the Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council signed an MOU with Environmental Protection Agency of Maldives in managing the protected area of Olhugiri working together with BR Office. 
 
Separate MOUs are to be signed between Hithaadhoo and Thulhaadhoo Councils in managaing the area. Management Plan for the core area of Baa Atoll Olhugiri was gazetted by the Ministry of Environment and Energy effective 14 March 2018. 
 
The team from EPA and BR Office is scheduled to visit Hithaadhoo tomorow to meet with registered users of Hithaadhoo Island.
 
 

BAARU GENERAL MEETING

The  General Meeting Baa Atoll Resources United (BAARU)of was held at Sonevafushi today. 
 
A total of 25 participants from 10 resorts together with Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, Baa Atoll Conservation Fund, Parley for the Oceans School Maldives, WAMCO, Manta Trust and Olive Ridley Project took part in the meeting. Ministry of Environment and Energy, Maldives wer epresent in the meeting.

Annual Hanifaru MPA Cleanup undertaken

The annual Hanifaru cleanup was undertaken today with participation from Baa Atoll Education Centre, Manta Trust, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, Ocean Dimensions, Baa Atoll Hospital, Liquid Salt Divers, MI College Eydhafushi, Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council, Eydhafushi Times, Secretariat of South Maalhosmadulu Eydhafushi Council, Family and Children Service Centre EydhafushI took part in the cleanup event. 
 
We would like to convey our appreciation to Miladhoo, Coco Palm Dhunikolhu, Maldives Dusit Thani Maldives, Dreamland The Unique Sea & Lake Resort Spa, Soneva Fushi, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru and all involved in making this even a success which was held in pouring rain.
