International Day for Biological Diversity

Greetings to all on International Day for Biological Diversity.

 The United Nations proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.

This year's theme, "Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism", it is greatly linked to our livelihood as we largely dependent on tourism as our main economic activity and this year's theme is also closely related to the Sustainable Development goals as well.

Second Information session on Olhugiri Management Plan

Information session targetted towards resource users of Olhugiri Protected Area was held today at Hithaadhoo. 62 registered users of Olhugiri island from Hithaadhoo were present at this information session.

Also present were VP of Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council, President of Hithaadhoo Council, Acting Officer in charge of BR Office, representatives from BR Office, Environmental Protection Agency of Maldives and Baa Atoll Conservation Fund.

A presentation on Olhugiri Management Plan was given by EPA and the presentation  ended with Q n A session.

Atoll Council signs MOU with Thulhaadhoo Council

An MOU has been signed between the Secretariat of Thulhaadhoo Council and Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council in managaing the protected area of Olhugiri. Under the MOU signed between the two parties today (International Day for Biological Diversity) Thulhaadhoo Council will be working together in managing the protected area of Olhugiri with BR Office and Environmental Protection Agency

Vice President of BAC Mr.Ahmed Afrah signed the MOU on behalf of Atoll Coucil while the Mr.Ahmed Rasheed, President of Thulhaadhoo Council signed on behalf of Thulhaadhoo Council.

Earlier the Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council signed an MOU with Environmental Protection Agency of Maldives as well in managing the protected area of Olhugiri working together with BR Office.

The management Plan for the core area of Baa Atoll Olhugiri was gazetted by the Ministry of Environment and Energy effective on 14 March 2018.
