BR Office takes part in SAMPA Research Expedition

The BR Office is glad to have been part of the scientific research expedition to the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA). The research expedition to the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) organized was carried out from 9th to 16th April by the Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Marine Research Centre and IUCN-Maldives, as part of Project Regenerate. 
 
Under the work carried out on this mission surveys of all the major reef areas and channels of SAMPA from Dhigurah to Rangali was undertaken. Experts from EPA, MEE and IUCN collected data on reef health and resilience, including benthic cover, reef impacts and fish biomass and diversity. A species list of observed coral and fish species was also compiled, with over 350 fish species and 100 coral species observed during the research week.
 

BAARU General Meeting at Four Seasons

The annual general meeting of Baa Atoll Resources United (BAARU) was held at at Four Seasons Maldives Landaagiraavaru on Thursday 13 April 2017 which was attended by members and associate members of BAARU. On behalf of the Minister of Environment and Energy Hon.Thoriq Ibrahim, the general meeting was attended by Policy Executive Dr. Abdulla Naseer and Managing Director of Baa Atoll Conservation Fund Mr.Abdulla Shibau.
 
Discussions during the meeting included preparations for this year's Manta Season, Regional Waste Management Facility on Raa Atoll Vandhoo and issues relating to the management of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve and Baa Atoll Conservation Fund.
 

Moodhumaakan’du Festival 2017

Moodhumaakan’du Festival 2017 #MMKF17 was held at Alifu Alifu Atoll Rasdhoo island today. The Festival was attended by school children from Rasdhoo, Maalhos, Mathiveri, Himandhoo, Ukulhas, Thoddoo and Feridhoo schools.
A clean-up event of Rasdhoo beach area was organized as part of the activities of the event together with a Quiz competition on biodiversity of Maldives was held with the students of school.
Environment Protection Agency, Manta Trust , Maldives National University, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve were present at this Festival together with the schools who attended from the atoll.
This Festival was held in association with International Union for Conservation of Maldives (IUCN) under their ‘Re-generate’ project being implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy. Previously two other festival under the name Moodhumaakanu was held in AA. Mathiveri in 2014 and in AA. Ukulhas in  2015. 
A total  of 140 students and 40 teachers from 07 islands participated in the festival which was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Environment Mr.Abdulla Ziyad.
