Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve celebrates International Year of the Reef 2018 and as part of the celebrations we are teaming up with #CCAPTeam in celebrating World Wetlands Day which is 2nd February
 
We are glad to inform and announce the hosting a Snap & Win Instagram photography contest from 18 January to 1st February 2018.
 
Simply share your favourite wetland related pictures for a chance to win some exciting prizes!

Winners will be selected based on the most number of likes.
The top ten posts would be submitted to a judging panel where the winners will be selected based on quality and relevance to the theme.

Meeting with Maldives Police and LGA

A meeting was held with Local Government Authority, Maldives Police Services, Environment Department, Environment Protection Agency and Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office at the Ministry of Environment and Energy today.
 
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the subject of uprooting of large amounts of trees for various purposes; issues related to this activity, methods undertaken in doing so at various islands, raising awareness on the subject amongst all stakeholder’s and how to bring solutions to this matter by working together.
 
Also discussed in the meeting were concerns relating to capture of migratory birds by residents of islands , what the roles and responsibilities of Maldives Police Service and Environmental Protection Agency are how each participant could actively take part in minimizing this.
Follow up meetings are scheduled on the subject matter in the coming months.
 

Olhugiri Management Plan discussions with Atoll Council

Final discussions with Baa Atoll Council on the draft management plan for the protected area of Olhugiri took place today at Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office. The President of Baa Atoll Council Mr.Mabrook Naseer represented Baa Atoll Council in this meeting and raised their viewpoint to the management methods and activities proposed in the planwhich was sent to the Council previously.
 
With this task completed the final draft of the management plan will be completed by the end of January 2018.
