Wetlands Study Tour to Srilanka

Staff from Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Atoll will be attending the Study Tour on management of Wetlands knowledge exchange programme from 10 to 13-January 2018 together with CCAP Team and Environment Protection Agency upon invitation from World Bank Sri Lanka , Colombo Office.

The main objective of the study tour is to promote cross learning where the participants will visit some of the wetlands of Srilanka, Colombo.

Hanifaru Cleanup 2014 undertaken

As part of gearing up for whale shark and manta season of 2014 Hanifaru island and Hanifaru reef cleanup and annual routine maintenance work was undertaken today. Participants in the cleanup work of Hanifaru Island included those from Baa Atoll Council, Eydhafushi Island Council, Baa Atoll Education Centre, Maldives Police Services, Baa Atoll Hospital and volunteers. 
 
Hanifaru reef cleanup and maintenance was undertaken by Four Seasons at Landaa Giraavaru, Seamarc, Reethi Beach Resort, Dusit Thani Maldives, Seasplash and Kihaad Maldives. 
The Biosphere Reserve Office wishes to thank all those involved in today’s work and hope that working together with all stakeholders involved we will all be able to achieve the common goal of managing Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve.
 
The Biosphere Reserve Office also wishes to express its gratitude to Royal for providing transport for the participants of Eydhafushi and Kihaad for providing lunch and RBR, Landaa and Kihaad for taking the responsibility of transporting the waste collected today.
 

BACF team to visit Baa Atoll

A team from the Baa Atoll Conservation Fund is to visit Baa Atoll from 5 December to 10 December 2013, and the main purpose of this visit is to provide information to Atoll Council, Island Councils, NGOs, Women’s Development Committees, schools and to the community on the proposed grants from BACF.
 
The team from BACF led by the Fund Manger  is scheduled to visit all 13 inhabited island of the atoll during the period mentioned together with the BR Office in Eydhafushi.
 
Earlier in the second meeting of the BACF Board, the issue of providing grants to the atoll was discussed and based on the discussions, the Board unanimously agreed to allocate a sum of US$100,00.00 as grants for 2013/2014.
 
The 3 main focal areas for which grants would be available from BACF in this cycle are in the areas of: 
 
1. Program for the protection, conservation and management of biological and natural resources, biodiversity and nature protection in Baa Atoll,
2. Livelihood improvement program for Baa Atoll residents, focusing on projects that are in line with sustainability and atoll ecosystem conservation policies,
3. Research, awareness raising and education program, focused on protection, conservation and management of biological and natural resources, biodiversity and nature protection in Baa Atoll.
 
Baa Atoll Conservation Fund was established on 18 April 2012 as a Trust Fund under the Public Finance Act (Act No: 3/2006) of the Republic of Maldives and the fund is governed by the Fund Board of Directors and the Fund Managing Director in accordance with the Fund Memorandum and Articles of Association and other applicable laws and regulations.
